55 years of Freetime – where jazz brings generations together

ENKHUIZEN, 8 September 2026 – The Freetime Old Dixie Jassband is celebrating its 55th anniversary.

The occasion will be marked with a special evening of jazz at De Nieuwe Doelen in Enkhuizen on Saturday 7 November 2026. The Freetime Old Dixie Jassband will share the stage with three bands that share their love of traditional jazz: Oriental Jazz Band, The Stompers and The Washboard Ramblers.

55 years of a distinctive sound

Since its formation in September 1971, the Freetime Old Dixie Jassband has established a distinctive presence on the jazz scene in Enkhuizen and far beyond. Over the years, the band has developed its own Freetime sound, bringing together traditional New Orleans jazz and influences from other musical styles.

Generations of musicians have been part of Freetime, finding their way into jazz through the band. Its long-standing involvement with the Enkhuizen Jazz Festival is also an important part of the band’s history.

Four bands, one evening of jazz

For this anniversary celebration, the band has chosen to bring together four different bands for one evening. Oriental Jazz Band will bring swinging New Orleans jazz, The Stompers will deliver energetic hot jazz, and The Washboard Ramblers will blend New Orleans jazz with swing and blues.

Together, the four bands promise an evening full of traditional jazz, energy and musical enjoyment.
